AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its impact on the world of law.

Volver

The increasing use of AI is changing the way the practice of law is approached. From automating legal processes to decision-making, AI is transforming the way lawyers and other legal professionals work. Here are some of the ways in which AI is affecting the world of law.

Automating legal processes

One of the most obvious ways in which AI is affecting the world of law is through the automation of legal processes. AI can help lawyers review contracts, analyse legal documents and conduct research. This saves time and reduces the cost of legal services. In addition, AI can analyse large amounts of data and provide lawyers with valuable and meaningful information.

Data-driven decision-making

AI is also changing the way decisions are made in the world of law. Lawyers can use AI to analyse data and create predictive models to help them make more informed decisions. For example, AI can help lawyers predict the outcome of a court case, allowing them to make better decisions about whether or not to take a case or whether or not to prosecute it.

Sentiment and emotion analysis

Another way in which AI is affecting the world of law is through sentiment and emotion analysis. AIs can analyse the language used in legal documents, emails and other communications to determine the tone and emotional meaning of the words used. This can be useful in litigation cases to better understand how a party involved in a case feels and how disputes can be resolved.

Conclusions

The incredible popularity that AIs have gained in recent months is due to the ease with which they have become able to generate text that is so accurate that it could appear to have been written by a person. So much so that all the text above that we have included in italics has been entirely generated by an AI using a series of writing parameters.

This makes it clear that the time has come when an AI could very well impersonate someone, and all kinds of deception can take place. However, as far as the legal field is concerned, are we facing a scenario in which we can rely entirely on AIs?

The answer, for the time being, is no. While most of them can be very helpful in, for example, generating text as we have done, explained in a very simplified and succinct way, they do not really do the job we ask them to do, but use an elaborate probability system to complete a sentence - or several sentences - with words that, statistically, are more likely to follow one after the other.

With respect to AIs that perform other functions, such as those that create predictive models, these to this day continue to give a series of failures that, if used without the supervision of an expert in the field, could give rise to circumstances that are at the very least adverse for the user.

For this very reason, if we were to try to get an AI to carry out some kind of action related to the world of law, although the content of what it indicates to us would be perfectly written, it would most probably be wrong and would end up causing us more than one problem.

However, it is clear that new technologies are taking giant steps and it is necessary to learn to exploit all the possibilities they offer. Belzuz Abogados is committed to the use and integration of new technologies to improve and facilitate the consultations of its clients and has a team specialised in new technologies. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions that may arise in this area.
